First things first, I didn't take the image above. In my head, that's the kind of image I would have taken, except in reality I was too busy eating to even remember to take a picture. So picture credit to Food52.
I did take a picture today (my morning green juice which consisted of broccoli, cucumber, pear and apple) but it paled into insignificance after I made lunch.
Because oh my these veggie burgers are to die for! Seriously. This was my first attempt too, so they didn't quite keep their shape - but they are SO delicious. The recipe is here.

When I first envisioned this blog, I had in mind something aesthetically much more pleasing, with arty pictures depicting my transformational journey into the World of Nourishment. The truth is remembering to take a daily picture is a chore, and I'm lucky to even take a snap before midnight without having to worry about styling it! Still, that was my initial intention, so who knows, maybe as it becomes easier to live with my new ways, I will find the time to appreciate it too.
Today we stocked up on the greens. I'm am buying 2-3 days ahead, as the use by date on fresh produce is a little limiting. As it was I had to turf out a full bag from last week. Hope this week fairs a little better.

I'm starting a 21 day detox, well kind of... this is all virgin territory to me, and I don't really have a clue about what I'm doing.
A few days ago we went shopping and I stocked up on various green produce, but after a full day away yesterday, it's surprising how quickly fresh produce passes its use by date!
I had thought I went with recipes in mind, but this morning as I stood in front of the fridge, I was a little at a loss; I didn't seem to have the right ingredients of any full recipe. Anyhow, I used what was still in date or needed to be used today, and this morning my juice consisted of 1 cucumber, 4 celery sticks, and 2 pears. It was okay. Not unpleasant by any means, but maybe a little heavy on the celery side.
Lunch was another 'throw-it-together-and-see-what-happens' affair, and I cooked quinoa for the first time which was rather yummy and not at all bitter like I was expecting. I roasted (as it turns out for not quite long enough) some chopped butternut squash and courgettes with a drizzle of olive oil and sea salt, and ground up some pine nuts and 3 cloves of garlic to mix in. I have to say for a first attempt, it didn't taste too bad. Unfortunately I only thought of taking a photo of it after it was in my belly!
Dinner wasn't as healthy as I had hoped, as I caved in to cravings and hunger and accepted Cam's meatball dish. I only ate two, but I felt that I had ruined the efforts of Day 1.
So tonight, I'm going to spend a some time planning for the next three days a little better, so we can start all over again.

We had our first wedding of 2013 today, and drove down last night to have another good nights sleep guaranteed at a local Premier Inn.
For breakfast, I opted for granola, fresh berries, yoghurt and a juice.
It felt good.
(Okay, I had a coffee too - but it could have been worse!)

My word for 2013 is nourishment.
For the last few years words I have chosen were all about growth and development, but what I realised towards the end of last year is sometimes too much forward focus can mean things in the present become neglected.
Little things, like making the bed, taking time to eat well, having a soak in the bath, getting a massage, going on a date, or even just getting changed in the mornings was often cast aside in favour of deadlines and other business related activities; until eventually I found I began to lose sight of what I was ultimately working for.
Nourishment is a big word, and I mean to embrace it holistically. But for today, my first nourishing act of 2013 was to simply make the bed.
